Observation of the Polish Citizens’ Assembly on Food Policy

In June 2024, Weronika Kędzia served as an observer of the Polish Citizens’ Assembly on Food Policy which took place in Warsaw. It was a second national-level citizens’ assembly organized in Poland and its goal was to answer the question: ‘How to ensure that by 2030 the food consumed in Poland is healthy and produced in an environmentally friendly manner?’.

65 people have been randomly selected to participate in the assembly and represent the Polish population in regard to: gender, age, education and place of residence. During the first weekend of the assembly (18 – 19th of May) participants gained knowledge on the topic of food policy, production and consumption styles in Poland and transformation approaches which allow to improve population’s health and lessen the negative impact of food production on the environment. During the second weekend of the assembly  (15 – 16th of June) participants deliberated on the topic, created recommendations for the authorities and voted on them. 32 recommendations received 80% of participant support and were accepted as the recommendations of the assembly.
