Research trip to Tallinn

At the beginning of March 2024 Weronika Kędzia, a PhD student and a member of Democratic Innovations group, visited Tallinn as part of the research on the Tallinn’s Citizens’ Assembly for a Green Capital which was organized in the city in the autumn of 2023.

The citizens’ assembly in Tallinn gathered 60 randomly chosen residents of the city, who constituted a so-called mini-public representing the demographics of the city. The participants were asked to create recommendations responding to the question of: "How can we link Tallinn's green spaces into an inviting urban whole?"

The visit was conducted as part of the research led by the Democratic Innovations group on the multi-linguistic aspect of the assembly, which was conducted in Estonian, Russian and English, corresponding to the languages used by the inhabitants of the city.

During the recent research trip, Ms. Weronika Kędzia interviewed the assembly organizers and discussion facilitators. Additionally, interviews with assembly participants and selected local government officials who were responsible for the organization of the assembly were already conducted and pre- and post- assembly surveys were organized among the participants.
