In November 2024 Weronika Kędzia took part in the observation of the first citizen’s assembly in Latvia (Riga Climate Assembly). The assembly focused on the creation of recommendations for local authorities on the topic of Riga’s Greening Plan. 35 city inhabitants took part in the educational phase of the assembly, where they learned about urban planning and biodiversity from experts in the field, and later participated in the deliberative phase in order to agree on recommendations for the City Council.
The event was observed by Ms. Kędzia along with Eva Mackeviča within the framework of the study conducted by the Democratic Innovations Research Team on the introduction of citizens’ assemblies in the Baltic states and for the purpose of Ms. Kędzia’s PhD dissertation project on the inclusion of linguistic and ethnic minorities in such initiatives.
