Public Governance is a major which is not only based on theory but also on practice.

Patrycja Nalepa, student of Public Governance

For whom?

The purpose of the public governance major is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they will need to find employment in state administration bodies and institutions involved in local social activities (NGOs), political (local government entities) and business (business institutions and enterprises) life.

Alongside general and professional competence in the field of governance, public institutions, administration, European law and human rights, the program also features supplementary courses to boost the attractiveness of studies, such as the module of soft and social skills, practical tasks accomplished within the framework of the FUTURE CHANGEMAKERS summer school, classes in English for Specific Purposes and modern teaching methods (teaching games, e-learning/b-learning). Students will also be involved in an interesting job placements program conducted by the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism.

Specializations

Good Governance and Civil Society

The dynamic progress of young democracies generates demand for large numbers of experts to work for the entities and institutions that constitute a civil society and collaborate with EU institutions and European peer institutions on the basis of the principles of good governance. The new program of studies offered by the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism is a response to these challenges. Well-trained experts in the field of civil society and good governance at the local level will also be able to find employment in entities and institutions that collaborate with state and local governments as well as enterprises which – in the age of technological progress – have already started seeking highly qualified personnel.

The courses offered under the international program will be taught by seasoned specialists and practitioners in the field of good governance, supported by scholars and experts from abroad.

The program provides for an international summer school to be organized, where students from Poland and abroad will be able to share experience and study in an international environment.

Dr Paulina Pospieszna

The purpose of the Public Governance is to educate students, who in the future, will take positions in the public sector or in the non-profit sector. Therefore, such knowledge and understanding the importance of good governance, is essential for these organisations to be successful. Moreover, during my classes, I put an emphasis on the development of critical thinking, which is why classes are based on interaction with students, discussing case studies and team work.
