AMU students at the Silesian University in Opava

Mr. Marcin Wochelski, a PhD student at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, AMU, and Mr. Mikołaj Kobryński, a bachelor student of Political Science program at the same Faculty, were the CEEPUS month-long scholarship holders at the Silesian University in Opava, Czechia, spending there April 2024 on studying and research.

Silesian University in Opava was a perfect choice for my CEEPUS scholarship. The stay at the local university was very well prepared, both by the scientists with whom I had the opportunity to establish contacts and by organizing the stay. I received access to the library, which allowed me to conduct research for my doctoral thesis. The living conditions were also at a high level and allowed for uninterrupted work. Due to my interests in Ukraine and the countries of the former Eastern Bloc, the opportunity to get to know the Czech Republic and exchange views with both scientists and people unrelated to the university was very interesting. I am very grateful for the opportunity to take part in the exchange and learn more about our closest neighbor state.

Going on an academic exchange through the CEEPUS programme was one of the best decisions that I took during my studies. The opportunity to attend interesting classes, thesis-related consultations with an excellent academic supervisor, the large book collection in the library, and the excellent working conditions all contributed to the fact that I consider my stay at the Silesian University in Opava to be an excellent experience. A great added value was the fact that the supervisor has a scientific interests that correspond to the topic of my MA dissertation and my interests (political ideologies, political systems in CEE countries and party systems). In addition, the placement was very well prepared from an organisational point of view, thanks to which I found my feet very quickly in the new reality. I am very happy that, thanks to the CEEPUS programme, I spent a whole month in an interesting and productive way.
